Tickets are now available for the Broadway production of Sherie Rene Scott's Everyday Rapture, hailed by The New York Times as "one of the year's most extravagantly entertaining new musicals." Scott’s semi-autobiographical show will begin performances at Roundabout Theater Company's American Airlines Theatre on April 19, with opening night set for April 29, directed by Michael Mayer.
Everyday Rapture is the story of a young woman’s psycho-sexual-spiritual journey on the rocky path that separates her mostly Mennonite past from her mostly Manhattan future as the "semi-star" of musicals such as Aida and The Little Mermaid. Scott travels from the cornfields of Kansas to the clover fields of New York with a disturbing detour through YouTube. The show includes songs made famous by David Byrne, George Harrison, U2, The Dap Kings, Judy Garland and Mr. Rogers.
As previously reported, Everyday Rapture is a last-minute addition to the 2010 season, replacing Roundabout's cancelled production of Terrence McNally’s Lips Together, Teeth Apart. The off-Broadway premiere of Scott's show, which opened at Second Stage in May 2009, recently received numerous Lucille Lortel Award nominations, including Outstanding Musical.
Written by Scott and Dick Scanlan, Everyday Rapture also features Eamon Foley, Lindsay Mendez and Betsy Wolfe. Get tickets now for this exhilarating look at a singular Broadway talent.
